I’d like to introduce you to one of the most inspiring dogs you will ever meet, Stacey Mae. I’ve encountered many amazing pups over the years, but this special dog is truly changing the world every day through her inspirational work.
Stacey Mae is a member of the Mandel family in Colorado. She's a 4 year old, Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, who has dedicated her life to helping others. She visits the nursing home 2-3 times a week with her family, to bring joy to the residents at the end of their journeys. Through her work, she helps brighten the lives of those who've been forgotten by the rest of the world.
Before Stacey Mae, many of these residents had little joy --if any-- in their lives. They were simply waiting… to die.
Now, they have a special gift to look forward to each week: the gift of love, delivered by the amazing Stacey Mae. On each visit, Stacey Mae passes out baked goods to the residents, spends time listening to their stories, and reminds them that they are still ever-so special.
Last year, Stacey Mae started an incredible mission, the Teddy Bear Project. Through the project, she collects teddy bear donations and delivers the special bears to children’s hospital patients and nursing home residents. In December 2010, Stacey Mae collected 88 teddy bears from around the world, and her special deliveries brought unbridled joy to these patients in the midst of their pain and suffering. She believes that everyone, young or old, sick or healthy, should have a teddy bear of their own. These bears provide the recipients with a sense of love and comfort in their time of need. Stacey Mae’s entire life is about giving that to them.
The Teddy Bear Project is dedicated in loving memory of a special friend, Gene. Gene was one of the first residents Stacey Mae visited in the nursing home, and he absolutely adored her visits. Each week, Gene would anxiously await Stacey’s arrival, eagerly smiling as she entered the building. Their time together meant the world to Gene, and the two shared a special bond that grew with each visit. Each time Stacey Mae would leave, Gene would extend his hand to shake her paw. Then, he would cup his other palm around her paw and say, “Thank You.” Those 2 little words changed her life forever, driving her to bring the same joy to many others.
Another of Stacey Mae’s favorite patients was a special little boy named JJ. JJ was very ill and having yet another hip surgery a few days before Christmas. Stacey Mae lit up his life with a teddy bear of his very own and treats for his service dog. JJ was so delighted with his new stuffed buddy, and hugged the teddy close to his chest with glee. He also couldn’t wait to give the special doggie treats to his service pup. During this difficult time, Stacey Mae was able to turn his fear to joy, just by showing up.
Stacey Mae’s mission has touched the hearts of so many patients and residents in their times of need. And now, this incredible pup, needs your help to continue her work. Stacey Mae’s Teddy Bear Project depends on donations. Children can donate one of their own special teddies or buy a new teddy bear for someone during their time of need. Monetary donations would also help Stacey Mae’s family purchase many more teddy bears for delivery to the sick children and the elderly. Please watch the incredible video below about Stacey Mae’s Teddy Bear Project, and PLEASE DONATE toward her efforts and SHARE this story, so others will be inspired to do the same. If you were in need, Stacey Mae would do this for you.
